What a terrific memoir. There are challenges, triumphs, tragedy, and even a few laughs here and there. Park writes in a fairly simple, very readable style, but she brings you right into her life from her young girlhood through her harrowing escape from Communism and adaptation to the first world. It is a story with a very human face, but it really makes the issue of human rights in North Korea come alive as something other than a newspaper report. Not to mention the additional issue of human trafficking, which is a principal outlet for those seeking to escape the horrors of the Kim Il regime. If you are apt to cry when reading a good book, this one will surely jerk a few tears from you. It left me hoping Park continues with her human rights activism. A very good read indeed.
